Prima Energy's First Crude Oil Lifting from Camar Field
Jakarta – December 2024. The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) together with the Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS), PT Prima Energi Bawean (PEB), successfully conducted the first crude oil lifting from the Camar Field, located within the Bawean Working Area. This field, located in the North of East Java Sea, approximately 90 km from Surabaya, resumed operations in February 2024 which has been dormant for 3 (three) years.
As the 100% operator in the Camar Field, PEB was awarded the PSC Cost Recovery contract through a Direct Offer Oil and Gas Tender, effective since December 15, 2022. Within a year, PEB achieved a significant milestone by commencing production at the field.
This inaugural lifting marks an important milestone for PEB. The crude oil is sourced from two wells, CM-1 and CS-2, located at the Central Processing Platform (CPP) in the Camar Field. Initial production is approximately 400 barrels of oil per day (bopd), with a total of 95,000 barrels of crude oil lifted. The oil was temporarily stored in the Temporary Storage Tanker (TST) Fastron before being transported by the tanker Maersk Cayman. The lifting process was carried out smoothly, adhering to high operational standards and prioritizing safety, security, and environmental protection.
Currently, PEB is undertaking several development activities, including drilling new wells CW-1 and CW-2 at Monopod Platform A (MPA), laying an 8 km pipeline connecting MPA to the CPP, and planning the reactivation of older wells such as CM-6. With these ongoing and planned activities, production from the Camar Field is projected to reach 2,200 bopd by 2025, contributing significantly to Indonesia's energy security.
Head of the Program and Communication Division of SKK Migas, Hudi D. Suryodipuro, expressed his appreciation for PEB's success in conducting its first lifting. "SKK Migas continues to encourage PEB to increase crude oil production at the Camar Field and to carry out exploration programs in the working area to maximize the oil and gas potential of the region. This is part of the effort to support national energy security," stated Hudi.
Meanwhile, PT Prima Energi Bawean's CEO, Pieters Utomo, emphasized that this lifting event represents a strategic achievement for PEB in supporting the national upstream oil and gas industry and contributing to state revenue at the end of 2024. "PEB will continue to synergize with all stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and maximize the potential of the Camar Field and Bawean Working Area," Pieters affirmed.
